Tale #25 – The Other Guy

Melvin Graham, Brother of Billy Graham

It’s hard not to want to be “the guy.” The person everyone knows, everyone listens to, and everyone wants to be. Whether it’s the simple acknowledgment of work accomplished, the drive to do something meaningful with our lives, or just a desire to bathe in the spotlight a bit – there’s some part of us that want the recognition of being a prominent person in whatever field we have chosen. However, so much of the stories told between the cracks in the narrative of the Gospels are told by “the other guy.” So if God has prepared us to be ‘the other guy’ in the narrative  – a footnote in a bigger, shinier, more memorable story – then that footnote has to be seen as important. If God believed the telling needed that footnote, then who are we to claim it isn’t worth the notation.
